On this show I was tasked with surfacing many different types of assets, including props, environments, and some character tweaking. Here we see the Royal Carriage. The interior required a velvet texture on the seats, some transparent yet reflective glass windows, and a gold leaf accent material. I also go to create the dried up version of Shrek's swamp home. I did the groundplane as well as the exterior of his house. We achieved the look of dried reeds and grass by using MC curves from modeling and fur geometry from my side. Shreks house is actually covered in very complex hairstyle when you think about it.
One of my main tasks on this project was to create the surfacing for our villains Dubois, and her animal control team. We needed to establish a stylized skin texture that had the subtle behaviors or real skin yet looked correct in the Madagascar universe. We used a dermis shader as well as 2 sets of maps to control the subsurface contributions. This skin shader recipe was then used for all the generic humans on the show. We created a very modular generic system that let us use the same material on many instances of the generics, while enabling the selection of unique characteristics for each human. I was also tasked with surfacing the famous Monte Carlo Fairmont Tunnel.
